Escape the City at the Lake

Updated: Dec 12, 2022

Summer 2020 is off to a unique start. Without the events, live entertainment, and nightlife, many of us are looking for an escape.

Imagine escaping to your dream lake home for a weekend of relaxation and peace and quiet after a long week. You and your family can spend the day soaking up the sun, boating on the lake, exploring the Kettle Moraine State Forest and all it has to offer.

In recent days and weeks, families have been spending time at their second or third homes in more remote locations. Others are choosing to invest in lake property as their permanent residence and move out of the city entirely. There is an increased interest in lake homes right now!

Benefits of getting out of the city and spending time at the lake

Here are a few of the benefits of getting out of the city and spending time at the lake:

Outdoor Living & More Space

Instead of spending the summer inside the few hundred square feet of your apartment and/or condo, you could head to the lake for the much-desired outdoor living space. A lake home can provide a larger yard and a fantastic view of the lake! Also, the Whitewater area is close to the Kettle Moraine State Forest, which offers acres upon acres for recreation and exploration!

Peace and Quiet

The hustle and bustle of the city can be exciting, but sometimes the overload of stimulation can leave you craving a peaceful and quiet place to relax. Spending time at the lake is a great way to recharge your batteries while enjoying the peace and quiet.

Fun on the Lake

The lake provides a variety of activities and recreational opportunities to enjoy - boating, swimming, waterskiing, jet skiing, fishing, etc. Whitewater Lake is a great place to fish for panfish, northern pike, largemouth bass, and walleye.

If you would like to just relax and unwind, you can always pick up a good book and soak up the sun. There is something for every member of the family!

Get Active Outdoors

In addition to lake recreational opportunities, the surrounding area provides plenty of space to get active. Whitewater is an Ice Age Trail Community. The Ice Age Trail has over 1,000 miles of walking paths that were sculpted by the Wisconsin glaciers.

Explore the area on a hiking, biking, off-road biking, horseback riding, and/or walking trail. If you are unsure of journeying out on your own, you can always join an Ice Age Trail hike provided by the Whitewater Tourism Council. There are endless opportunities for a change of scenery throughout the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest.

Enjoy Breathtaking Sunsets & Views

The open space and lake provide the perfect scene for beautiful, breathtaking sunsets! After enjoying the day on the lake, grab your favorite drink, sit back on your deck, and watch the sunset without any buildings obstructing your view.

Not only are the sunsets gorgeous, but you never know when you will come across a stunning view as the sun shines over the local family farm or the rainbow stretch across the lake. The Whitewater Lake area is full of beauty and wildlife!

Experience Downtown Whitewater

Even if it is a rainy and cloudy day, every cloud has a silver living and there are plenty of other things to do. You can venture to Downtown Whitewater filled with historic sites, art opportunities, unique shops, and local restaurants. From Downtown Whitewater to the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater, you can walk throughout the community to take advantage of all there is to see and do.

Take a Day Trip to a Local Destination

There are many other charming, small towns near Whitewater that are perfect for a day trip! Whether you are looking for a local farm market, a winery, a distillery, a walking path or park, a golf course, or a drive-in move theater, you can find it nearby!

For example, you might consider a day trip to New Glarus to explore the world class New Glarus Brewing Company. Or you may prefer a day in Lake Geneva site seeing, shopping, stopping for lunch, and taking a tour of the lake along the Lake Geneva Shore Path. Alternatively, you could head to the Wisconsin Dells to checkout Wisconsin's most popular tourist destination and one of the most beautiful portions of the state.

Summary

More space, peace and quiet, fun at the lake, get active outdoors, enjoy breathtaking sunsets and views, experience local small towns, and taking a day trip to local destinations are just a few of the benefits of living at the lake and escaping the city! Whitewater Lake and the surrounding areas appeal to many families in Chicago and the surrounding cities.
